Description

XO is Elliott Smith's 1998 album and his first major-label release, broadening the intimate songwriting of his earlier work with more elaborate studio arrangements, piano, strings, and layered vocals. The record retains Smith's hushed melodic precision while opening into brighter and more ornate textures on songs such as "Waltz #2 (XO)," "Baby Britain," and "Independence Day." It remains one of the central albums in his catalog.
