The official soundtrack companion to Lili Fini Zanuck's documentary Life In 12 Bars, spread across four LPs and running more than two and a half hours.

Rather than a conventional solo compilation, it follows the film's structure through every phase of Eric Clapton's playing life, drawing on recordings with The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, The Beatles, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Derek & The Dominos and George Harrison, as well as Clapton's own records and the blues musicians who shaped him. "For Your Love," "I Feel Free," "Sunshine Of Your Love," "Crossroads (Live At Winterland)" and "Steppin' Out" sit alongside Leadbelly and Muddy Waters sides that explain where it all came from.

Several tracks are previously unreleased. The audio was remastered at Abbey Road Studios and the four discs come with printed inner sleeves carrying track-by-track credits.
