Description

Third finds Portishead moving away from the sample-led trip hop of their earlier work into starker, more mechanical territory, where brittle drum patterns, drones and synth textures press against hushed vocals. Pieces such as "Machine Gun," "The Rip" and "Silence" swing between rhythmic aggression and near-folk stillness, with the sequencing holding that tension unresolved. This is the 2016 remaster.
