Estimated to now be worth €14M–€18 MILLION, one of the last instruments made (1726) by the greatest bowed instrument maker in history, the master craftsman Stradivari, was bequeathed to the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1960. The instrument has been on loan to British cellist Steven Isserlis since 2009 who has been touring with it and recording on it for over 15 years. Marking the 300th anniversary in 2026 of 'The Marquis de Corberon', cited as one of the world’s greatest cellos, Hyperion presents a beautiful 10-CD collection which brings together ten of Steven Isserlis’ chamber and concerto albums with the instrument. Two generous, comprehensive and scholarly booklets accompany the release, presenting all the original album notes alongside three essays exploring the provenance of the instrument.
