Description

Portishead deepens the group's trip-hop signature with brooding, film-noir atmospheres built from scarred samples, tremolo guitar, muted drum breaks, and a vocal presence that hovers between torch song and static. Tracks such as "Cowboys," "All Mine," and "Only You" trade the smoother edges of the group's earlier work for something harsher and more claustrophobic, closer to a soundtrack for an unmade thriller.
