Description

Mama's Gun moves through band-led neo-soul, jazz-inflected harmony, and loose, unhurried funk, with Erykah Badu's conversational phrasing sitting close to the groove rather than riding above it. The record balances immediate material like "Bag Lady" and "Didn't Cha Know" with slower, more searching pieces such as "Orange Moon" and the closing "Green Eyes."
