Released on Lost Highway and produced by Don Was, Blessed is one of the most assured records of Williams' career, moving between the weary tenderness of "Copenhagen," the hard-eyed "Seeing Black," the quiet grace of the title track and the fierce "Buttercup." 

The real draw for long-time listeners is the second CD. Known as The Kitchen Tapes, it contains solo demo versions of every song on the album, sung and played by Williams alone, recorded before the band arrived. Hearing the same twelve songs twice, first bare and then fully realized, turns the set into an unusually clear look at how she writes and how much of a song is already there in the first take.

The first CD carries the finished album. A printed sheet with lyrics and photographs is included.
