Unmasked found KISS moving further into polished pop-rock after the sleek turn of Dynasty. Despite its title, it arrived while the band was still performing in makeup, and it became the final KISS studio album to feature original drummer Peter Criss in the credits. “Shandi” gives the album its best-known single, leaning into a softer melodic style, while “Talk to Me” and “Two Sides of the Coin” highlight Ace Frehley’s increased presence on the record. “Is That You?” opens the album with a bright, radio-minded punch that sets the tone for its streamlined approach.
