Description
John Coltrane Quartet’s Crescent was released in 1964 on Impulse! Records, arriving during a concentrated run of studio work that would soon lead to A Love Supreme. Recorded with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones, the album reflects Coltrane’s deepening spiritual focus within a post-bop setting.
The title track “Crescent” sets a reflective tone, while “Wise One” continues that inward approach through its melodic phrasing. In contrast, “Bessie’s Blues” offers a more direct, blues-based structure, and “Lonnie’s Lament” gives space to Garrison’s extended bass feature. This edition is presented on CD.
