Other male vocal groups preceded them and others have followed. Yet none have combined commercial success with soulful sophistication matching the level of respect earned by Boyz II Men. Now all five of the group’s R&B #1s, six platinum hits, and more classics of the last decade, have been brought together with The Best Of Boyz II Men edition of 20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection (Motown/UMe), released October 7, 2003.
Along with the platinums “End Of The Road,” “I’ll Make Love To You” and “A Song For Mama,” The Best Of Boyz II Men includes two other R&B #1s not heard on the 2001 Legacy retrospective: “Uhh Ahh” and the gold-selling radio remix version of “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday.” A third non-Legacy track is the Top 20 R&B/Top 30 pop “Thank You.” The remaining four selections were each Top 5 R&B and pop--the platinum hits “Motownphilly,” “In The Still Of The Nite (I’ll Remember)” and “4 Seasons Of Loneliness,” and the gold “Water Runs Dry.” The Best Of Boyz II Men also features, for the first time, career-spanning photos and liner notes, written by former Motown executive Traci Jordan.
After another Top 5 album launched the new millennium, Boyz II Men exited Motown, but their greatest influence remains the hits on The Best Of Boyz II Men.
The series 20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection, featuring new “best of” albums from the most significant music artists of the past century, is the most successful single artist series in music history.
