Englabörn & Variation LP
The double album Englabörn & Variation by Jóhann Jóhannson is a reissue of his debut album Englabörn from 2002 in remixed sound together with a collection of completely new "reworkings". It is a touching posthumous testimony to his haunting musical language and expressiveness.
On the double album, Jóhannsson himself has explored his first solo album from 2002 and added new variations to it. It contains a piano version of the title track played by DG colleague Víkingur Ólafsson and poignant choral pieces with the Theatre of Voices ensemble. But other internationally renowned musicians whom Jóhannsson admired have also added their interpretations: Among them Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, ambient duo A Winged Victory for a Sullen, composer and producer Paul Corley.
